International Cooperation
Rostelecom is actively expanding its operations on the international scene. The Company has direct access to the networks of over 150 telecom operators in 70 countries, is an active participant in international cable systems and collaborates with 600 international and national operators of fixed-line and mobile communication systems.
As Russia’s leading telecom operator, Rostelecom is a permanent member of the Standardization Sector of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T), sits on the Telecommunication Operators Board of the Regional Commonwealth in the field of communications (RCC) and participates in a number of other international organizations such as the Pacific Telecommunications Council (PTC) and the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC).
Rostelecom is the initiator and key participant of several international projects that play a major role in the transmission of traffic between the countries of Eurasia. In particular, the Company has launched the Transit Europe – Asia (TEA) system, with a throughput capacity of up to 3.2 Tbps. This reliable and entirely ground-based trans-continental communications route is an alternative to subsea cable systems. Jointly with three foreign operators, Rostelecom is working on the major new Europe Persia (EPEG) project to build a high-speed transit communication line with a capacity of up to 3.2 Tbps between Europe and the Middle East.
